RE: [xmca] Augusto Boal, RIP

I've been a participant in the Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed
Conference for several years now and have had the privilege of taking
workshops with Agusto and Julian. I found Agusto to be a gentle man, a
brilliant thinker, and a fiery worker on behalf of oppressed persons. He
truly brought to life the work of Paolo Freire through a highly
politicized arts based pedagogy and practice that traverses
sociocultural barriers.
Agusto was nominated for a Nobel Peace prize last year for his
incredible work. He will be sorely missed.

Augusto Boal passed away today (Saturday) at the age of 78, Boal is
internationally as the creator of the Theatre of the Oppressed--though
our department he is perhaps better known as the author of "The
Misadventures of Uncle McBuck," which received its world premiere here
UGA last year, and as the father of Julian Boal, who was a visiting
in the department last year.
