*The Finnish Institute of Humour and Satire, Orivesi College of Art,
Orivesi, Finland*

*The Finnish Institute of Humour and Satire,* in cooperation with *The
University of Jyväskylä* / Department of Art and Culture Studies, will
arrange the first conference on humour and satire for scholars. The
dates of the conference are February 20 to 22, 2009. ALL DISCIPLINES in
the field of art and culture studies will be accepted. Especially, we
wish response from scholars studying visual arts, film, theatre,
musicology, literature and creative writing, but of course all other
specialists in laughable matters are warmly welcome, too.

One session is reserved for professional scholars, another for students.

*Conference Themes:* papers on all aspects of humour, satire, comedy,
and related topics like parody, irony, grotesque, macabre etc.

Proposals (in English) should include: paper title, abstract of 500
words maximum, scholar’s name, institutional affiliation, complete
mailing address, email address, telephone and / or mobile number.

Acceptances of papers will be sent out by November 30, 2008.

*Official Conference Language:* English

*Conference Facilities:* Concerence sessions and accommodation will take
place in the campus of Orivesi College of Art; address: Koulutie 5, FI
35300 Orivesi, Finland

*Travel:* Orivesi is located in the central Finland, 2 hours and 30
minutes by train from Helsinki, and 25 minutes by train from Tampere. Is
is also possible to take an international flight to Tampere (via
Helsinki) and continue by bus or train from the Tampere Railway Station.

*Cultural and other Activities:* Evening party with a hilarious program
on Saturday 21^st February; a trip to the City of Tampere will be
organized on Sunday 22^nd February (extra charge of the trip 20 euro).
The program in Friday evening (dinner, sauna, meeting with colleagues).

*The Conference Fee of 170 euro* includes participation in the
conference, and 2-night-long lodging in a double room, and meals
(breakfasts, lunches, dinners, an evening party),


*The Conference Fee of 210 euro* includes participation in the
conference, and 2-night-long lodging in a single room, and meals
(breakfasts, lunches, dinners, an evening party),


*The Conference Fee of 100 euro *includes only participation in the
conference,* neither lodging nor meals. *

*Schedule:* The Conference will begin on February 20 at 2 p.m. by the
presentation of the Orivesi of College of Art, and the Finnish Institute
of Humour and Satire. The sessions will start on 4 p.m., Friday evening.
Saturday sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Sunday sessions from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m.

A guest lecturer’s speech on Saturday 4 p.m.
