David,
I don't think he's talking about either self concept or identity, as the
latter is usually understood (some kind of self-interpretation). He's
talking about how one becomes a person, how one develops a personality,
which as I understand it is for him a particular profile of the higher
psychological functions, a concrete organization rather than an abstract
individuality, which is a product of one's relations with others in
practices of work, communication, etc.
