Call for Special Issue Proposals

The journal Cognitive Science will begin publishing 8 issues a year in
2008. In addition to issues filled with regular submissions, the
journal also publishes special issues (or sections of issues) devoted
to important topics in the field. The journal now accepts and
evaluates proposals for potential special issues once a year. The
deadline for submissions of special issue proposals for issues to be
published in 2009 is December 3, 2007. To propose a special issue,
please include the following information:

   * A 2-page description of the content of the special issue, with
special emphasis on why the issue is particularly timely, and the
potential impact of this issue on the field.
   * A list of authors (names and affiliations) who have agreed to be
part of the special issue. Journal issues are about 160 journal pages
long, so a special issue can accommodate 6-8 papers (depending on
length).
   * A proposed timeline for submission and review of papers. Please
bear in mind that proposals submitted in 2007 are being evaluated for
publication in the 2009 volume of the journal.
   * A discussion of any other special issues or books that have come
out recently on this topic.

Submit proposals as an MS Word or pdf document to
<mailto:cogscij@indiana.edu>cogscij@indiana.edu. Proposals for special
issues are evaluated by the editorial board of the journal. The board
has traditionally set a rather high bar for acceptance of special
issues. We seek issues that will be of relevance to the broad
readership of the journal. We will evaluate all of the proposals in a
timely fashion and hope to inform proposers of the status of their
proposal by January 31, 2008.

Proposers should be aware that acceptance of a special issue proposal
is not a guarantee that the individual papers proposed and submitted
for this issue will be accepted. All papers go through the standard
review process handled by a member of the editorial board, and papers
that fail to meet the standards of the journal will not be published.
