FULL TIME ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
READING/LITERACY EDUCATION
Beginning Fall 2007

The Department of Language and Literacy Education at the University of
Georgia seeks a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in the
teaching of reading/literacy in Grade 4-12 school settings. The position
begins in August 2007.

Qualifications:
A doctorate in reading or literacy education or related field by July 2007
is required. Evidence of scholarship or scholarly potential pertaining to
reading/literacy education is expected. Desirable areas of interest
include: intermediate/middle grade reading instruction; teaching reading to
English learners; interest or experience in developing a literacy coaches
program; teaching reading to struggling or striving readers at the
intermediate/middle grade level; multicultural reading/literacy education.
Experience in obtaining external funding is highly desirable. The
successful candidate should have experience teaching students at the
elementary, middle, or high school level.

Responsibilities:
Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in
reading/literacy education and a reading endorsement program; developing
graduate courses in the candidate's areas of specialization; providing
leadership in a new literacy coaches program; developing and extending a
research and publication agenda including the pursuit of external funding;
advising and working with masters and doctoral students; and working with
other faculty in a dynamic and growing department.

a curriculum vita, a sample of scholarly writing, graduate program
transcripts, and at least three letters of references to the address below.
