ETS Research & Development has an opening for a Research Scientist in the
Center for Assessment Design & Scoring. The center conducts research on the
integration of psychometrics, cognitive science and technology with the goal
of enhancing the scientific and educational value of assessments.

 

Responsibilities of the position include but not limited to:

 

· Apply scientific skills in designing and conducting research
studies in the application of cognitive and psychometric sciences to the
design and development of assessment theory and practice.

· Develop and contribute to the development of new products or
services for education.

· Generate or contribute to new or modified theories of educational
and psychological processes, research methodology and analytic or
interpretative procedures.

· Design and conduct complex scientific studies functioning as an
expert in major facets of the projects. Assist in the development of
proposals and project budgets.

· Conduct of research projects by accomplishing directed tasks
according to schedule and within budget. Participate in dissemination
activities through the publications of research papers, progress and
technical reports, the presentation of seminars or other appropriate
communication vehicles.

· Develop professional relationships as a representative, consultant
or advisor to external advisory and policy boards and councils, research
organizations, educational institutions and educators.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Job level to be determined based on qualifications and experience.

 

Associate Research Scientist: A Ph.D. in cognitive science, psychology, or
related fields is required. Evidence of independent substantive research
experience in an area of interest to ETS is required. Background in verbal
or writing cognition and interests in individual differences are also
required. The specific desired background could be comprehension, discourse
processing, or psycholinguistics, or the cognition of writing, for example.
Candidates who do not already have a research background in writing but who
are willing to expand their interests to include it will be considered.
Teaching experience or prior work in cognitive psychology may be a
substitute for training.

 

Research Scientist: Same as above. In addition, a minimum of three years
of progressively independent research experience is necessary.
