Special Issue of Semiotica on Education

Marcel Danesi, the new Editor-in-Chief of the journal Semiotica
(http://www.degruyter.de/rs/384_409_DEU_h.htm) has invited me to be
guest editor of a special issue of the journal on the topic of semiotics
and education. Rather than limiting the issue to a specific topic within
education, I have chosen to take an eclectic approach. This would
include both theoretical and empirical papers across the numerous
programs and areas that have applied semiotic concepts to education. My
hope is to show the readers of this journal the breadth of our efforts
as well as the depth. I would also welcome papers that are exploring the
potential value of semiotics in enriching a current theoretical
approach, such as situated cognition, activity theory, constructivism,

If you agree to submit a paper, you will need to complete and send me
the attached "Biographical Note Form for Semiotica Contributors,"
"Copyright Agreement," and submit a title and a 100 word abstract. I
have also attached the style sheet of the journal. The deadline for a
completed paper would be August 15, 2005. I would have reviews and
requests for revisions back to you by October 15, with final copy going
to Semiotica by the end of the year. This is ambitious but do-able.
Submissions should be no longer than 10,000 words although that limit
may be negotiable depending on the number of contributors.
