Subject: Re first brief remark's on Carol Lee's
article

first, Steve, thanks for your summary, it got me to reread
Lee's article ;and now I'lve spent several days thinking about
it. and i've been thinking about it from the positionality of a k-12
public school teacher in these days of "leave no child behind" =
legislation.=A0 you picked out several quotes from Lee's article and you =
asked, in reference to Luiz' and Mike's postings:

But Luiz and Mike bring up a really interesting question: what
about the teacher?=A0

The question assumes a great deal about the teacher=A0 -=A0 in =
particular it assumes teacher proficienty with technology, teacher =
beliefs about learning and teacher time.

your quotes:

page 51
Because the CBN is a tool, teachers, curriculum designers, or =
researchers
can create content and interfaces that are responsive to the community =
of
students and the particular demands of the texts.

page 52
The tool [the CBN] itself is inherently flexible because it is simply a
structure on which differing content and interfaces can be built.

page 58
In the case of tools such as the Lyric Architecture developed by Pinkard
(2000) and the CBN described in this article, teachers, for example, can
create content, structure tasks, and in some cases create interfaces =
that
can be adapted to local audiences.

These quotes look at teachers decontextualized.=A0 in what figured =
worlds are most teachers working with?=A0 what are the assumptions about =
the political, intellectual, professional constraints about being made =
about teachers=A0 within these quotes?=A0=A0=A0 what i know about the =
figured world of a public school teacher, this quotes don't fit.

Lee's article shows what's possible.=A0 it doesn't discuss what's =
probable.
