Ethnographer
Institute for Multimedia Literacy,
Annenberg Center for Communication
University of Southern California

Overview:

The Institute for Multimedia Literacy's mission is to explore literacy in a contemporary context through multimedia authorship that focuses on the conceptual and expressive rather than the technical. These new approaches to literacy are brought into faculty research as well as the existing curriculum of the University of Southern California and other Universities and institutions nationwide through student authored multimedia projects. By providing faculty workshops, curriculum, state-of-the-art labs, and instructional support for a wide range of courses, this Institute is a unique example of multimedia education integrated across the disciplinary spectrum.

As one part of the reflective and research effort of the Institute, Mizuko Ito is leading an ethnographic evaluation. This research will involve describing an emergent learning community and multimedia genres defined by the Institute.

See www.iml.annenberg.edu for more information about the Institute.
