Job Announcement: Postdoctoral Researcher
CONNECT: A Center for Research & Innovation in Elementary Education
University of California, Los Angeles
The Postdoctoral Researcher will work closely with Dr. Frederick
Erickson, the Director of CONNECT, to conduct and facilitate research
on elementary education. CONNECT is the research center at Corinne A.
Seeds University Elementary School (UES), UCLA’s laboratory school.
Salary range: $28,000 - $40,000 (depending on experience and education)
Beginning date: September 2003
Required: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field (e.g.,
anthropology, sociology, psychology, linguistics); experience working
in schools; interest in collaborating with school faculty on research
projects; knowledge of basic qualitative and quantitative research
methods; experience or interest in conducting research on teaching,
learning, or schooling; ability to write for a practitioner audience
Desired: Experience or interest in the use of video in classroom
research; Experience writing grants; Skill in developing and organizing
research projects; Interest in developing web-based teaching and
learning resources
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate research between university and UES faculty and staff.
2. Work collaboratively with UES faculty and other Los Angeles-area
elementary schools to investigate topics related to teaching, learning,
and schooling.
3. Work closely with the Communications Director on developing content
for website and newsletter.
4. Advise undergraduate and graduate students interning or conducting
research at UES.
5. Oversee administrative activities of the research office (includes
supervision of undergraduate work-study office assistants).
6. Possibility of part-time teaching in the Graduate School of
Education & Information Studies at UCLA depending on background and
interests.
