Kevin,

Thank you for pointing out the fabulous programs offered by the magnates in
St. Paul. Something unique about the Hmong language is that traditionally it
is not a written language and so many of the elders in the Hmong population
cannot read even those notices sent home written in Hmong. It is also a very
tribal language and there is debate among Hmongs regarding the proper
enunciation and emphasis. There studious attack of academics has pointed many
Hmong on a fast track to be leaders, this year a Hmong woman was voted into
the MN house and a Hmong man was appointed to be vice principal of a St. Paul
school. Anyone interested in the integration of geust culture into host
culture would do good to study the Hmongs presence in St. Paul.
