The theory and practice of putting names to the faces of xmca

I'm number 70 - the one with the Sheffield spring sun shining on my bald
patch!

To ask an xmca type question about this (which links to the subjectivity
discussion): how will our interactions on the list be changed by our being
able to link faces to names? So far I have only met face to face one person
whose photo has been posted (Phil Graham) and can identify perhaps another
half dozen from their websites, book covers etc. I have mental pictures of
some others either from the style or the content of their written
contributions to the list, but I suspect many of these do not match their
real physical appearance (presumably some kind of stereotyping is at work).
That's a reason why I am both curious to know who is who and, while a period
of guessing would be fun, I think it might improve the quality of our
multi-logues and provide a level playing field for those of us whose paths
don't often cross with xmca'ers. On the other hand, it might just provide a
basis for a new higher-level stereotyping, but then so might incorrect
attributions of names to faces.

Bill, was privacy and the absence of consent the one reason you didn't post
the names or were you also worried about the possible side-effects?
