Or even easier, just get a good GIS and lots of shapefiles and tables and go
to town! thematic mapping is fun!!! imagine: hot dog consumption per
capita!! useful too -- everyone's getting a GIS tech nowadays.

  Maybe you should collaborate with a local town planner and have your
students do a project with them that results in a public object for all to
view.
