John, thank you for sharing the story about community support for an
immigrant. Here in Maryland there are a lot of people from Muslim and/or
Arab countries, and the local media have gone out of their way to make
people aware that almost all immigrants are normal, non-threatening
people just like everyone else, and that terrorists are an aberration.
The message has been that if you're a "real American" then you play fair
with everyone, and don't act on stereotypes. Unfortunately not yet
everyone is getting - or wants to get - the message, but it's out there
being pushed.
