Hi Mike and Bill--

Do you have a space for Delaware, La Red Magica project
(http://ematusov.soe.udel.edu/LaRedMagica), please? Yesterday we met with
the Latin-American Community Center officers where our partnership is
located for four years and I suddenly have realized that we are running our
project according to Mike's initial design in terms of sustainability. Not
only LACC took all responsibility for financing their part of the project
(e.g., computers, activity supplies, software, salaries for all involved
community officers including site coordinators) but this year for the first
time they open the La Red Magica site during the summer without our UD
undergrad students present. At the same time, they are extremely interested
in the partnership with the university and our students coming and working
with the LACC kids. The director of LACC assured us many times that if we
need to press university on whatever issue she can use her connection in the
Delaware legislature to help us (she did it once very successfully at the
beginning of the project). There are also some visible changes apparently
influenced by our project in ways how LACC organize their work with kids.
However, currently, LACC creativity more and more shapes what we do (for
example, they develop typing club, computer assembling clubs, and what us to
help them to set up tutoring club teaching kids how to tutor other kids) --
we are eager to join their projects and activities as they joining ours. It
is a very exciting time for the project. From sustainablity point of view,
our biggest issue is University since the project does not fit its model of
teacher education. We are working on building infrastructure and org
structure to normalize the presence of our project within School of
Education. So it can be very interesting to reflect on that and interview
LACC officers working with us. AERA session can be a good opportunity for
that.

What do you think?

Eugene
