Foster Fellowship in Vision and Development: Focus on Early Childhood

The goal of this fellowship is to promote research of the highest
quality in vision and human development focusing on growth and
development in early childhood, factors that influence preventive
behaviors such as compliance with wearing glasses. The successful
applicant will be expected to make an independent contribution as
part of a multidisciplianry team of researchers and professionals in
the Division of Community Ophthalmology, UCSD Shiley Eye Center and
will have the opportunity participate in the UCSD Center for Human
Development and the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.

Therefore, the successful applicant will have demonstrated ability
for independent contributions as demonstrated by first authored peer
reviewed research articles and experience in writing successful
research grant applications.

Requirements: Doctorate degree in field related to human
development. Theoretical understanding of early childhood development
including but not limited to visual motor coordination, social,
cognitive development. Proven successful ability to design research
studies to test these functions in relation to vision disorders,
keeping in mind normal growth and developmental patterns.
Experience with standard developmental testing in infants and young
children required, and experience in the area of child vision and
vision disorders preferred. Demonstrated ability for successful
collaboration with multidisciplinary team including
physicians,psychologists , public health professionals, teachers, and
nurses.
