Another thought. Douglas Adams (of Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy) has
died. Now THERE was a community - those of us who were devoted to the
adventures of Ford Prefect. I think H2G2 also links nicely to the thought of
your colleague.

Subject: a thought for the day

I just arrived home from an unusual meeting at UCSD where our local outreach
people and community people came together under the slogan of "communities
of learning." Absolutely fascinating. CHAT lives outside the confines of
xmca and lchc, or hesinki, or....... and it live among people who thought
that
marx was the brother of a film comic.

When I arrived home, I received a message from a lurker on xmca who lives
half way around the world. S/he sent the this "thought for day" which comes
form central Europe (following bakhtinian/vygotstian principles):

Those who have not future have not reason
for fear, said Kundera. Those who remain unaware of possibilities have no
reasons for the postponement of bliss. You can call this "the thought of the
day".
