boundaries

Like Bill, I was prompted to think of Roger Barker when Sonja posed the
question of boundaries vis a vis activities. Barker has been severely
criticised by Jean Lave, among others, for being too behavioristic. I
do not find this line of interpretation the most useful one in dealing with
his ideas. Rather, synomorphs are clearly not point for point closed
relations, but rather fluid and dynamic relations. The relative density
of interaction within and between presumed systems provides one way to think
about borders.
