The Department of Education, Graduate School of Education, University
of California, Santa Barbara (http://www.education.ucsb.edu) invites
applications for an Assistant Professor, Tenure Track opening in the
area of Linguistic and Cultural Diversity in Pre-K-12 Education
effective July 1, 2001. Candidates are sought with expertise in
research and teaching for linguistically and culturally diverse
students in one or more of the following areas: learning and
acquisition of languages and literacy, schooling and instruction,
education and language policy, and teacher preparation.

The successful candidate will instruct graduate level courses and
seminars based on her or his areas of expertise. Courses and seminars
will fulfill required and elective offerings across one or more of
the following emphases: Child and Adolescent Development, Cultural
Perspectives of Education, Educational Leadership and Organization,
and Teaching and Learning. Participation in the Teacher Education
Program, and in a new undergraduate minor program are also possible.

A Ph.D. in education or related disciplines must be completed prior
to appointment.
Application review will begin January 15, 2001 and continue until the
position is filled. Applicants should submit a letter of application,
current vitae, representative publications, and three letters of
