tatiana asks:
>What did really you imply, diana, saying "faux-interdisciplinary"?

"faux" is a french word, referring to "not really", as in pseudo, or fake,
and i have met many people who claim they are interdisciplinary
but are actually specialists who bring one or another idea into their
specialization =
those are who i refer to as "faux-interdisciplinarian" as they don't seem
to me
to be, by inter-disciplinary meaning between disciplines, really
inter-disciplines so much as specialized and borrowing words from other
disciplines -

your work sounds quite interesting - word-meaning, of course, to me, and
as you note, is so social and particular, that it is difficult to approach
the work as a project of
meanings so much as a project of the history of language,
which is where i think semiotics and symbolism is so interesting,
as well as anthro-linguistics and anthropology, proto-linguistics, and so
on -

but thanks so much for all the info - it sounds quite interesting and i
can understand how difficult it must be for you to focus on "one" thing,
precisely the difficulty i found writing my dissertation, which in the end
turned into a consideration of that very problem itself - the conflict and
crisis of specialization when attempting to make sense of something so
complex as a human existence, or gendered conditions.

as for neuro-studies, most of mybackground is in infancy research - really
really
fascinating area there.
but back to "faux" , it's french, so is probably listed in your
french-english dictionary.
:)
cheers dear,
diane
