Bill,

After describing in systems theory language how our society must make
children bear the weight of resolving the systemic contradictions you
wrote: "It makes me wonder about how noble is the goal of
self-sustainability. Could it be that for an institution to preserve
itself, it is requisite to develop these buffers? What a sad dilemma to
contemplate on a Sunday morning."

I would say "fittingly Sunday morning" since this is the day of the week on
which large segments of our society observe the fundamental concept of
sacrificing children and celebrate the fact that the child consented to
sacrifice himself in service to his father. In Kazantzakis' version just
being allowed to be normal was the last temptation after all.
