anent catholic schools...i attended them in suburban cleveland ohio, circa
1950-60...a brutal regimen not limited to the inner city, but embedded in
the pedagogic beliefs of the outfits...they dont call 'em orders for
nothing, you know...compared to the nuns i had, the christian brothers were
gentle and considerate...and now everytime i rise or sit to address a class
of students i am consoled, in my imagination, by what i conceive to be the
sites and sounds of strange disturbances in catholic graveyards all over
the world where, one by one, my former tormentors and tormentrixes spin
desperately and unhappily their graves.
