math classroom architecture

Just a note that there almost certainly is a literature on physical
arrangements in math classrooms based on the trend from the 80s toward
teaching mathematics via "manipulatives". This is the math version of
"hands-on" science teaching and is more or less Piaget-inspired. It
advocates the use of concrete materials, often specially designed for the
teaching of various concepts, in a small-groups classroom setting, rather
like the groups-at-tables model in science classes. I believe it is most
influential in elementary and middle-school mathematics teaching. JAY.
