I may have been unclear or misrepresented Alex's position. It was not that
U.S. kids concepts were more everyday or Russian kids concepts were more
scientific and rigid, but because of the sociohistorical context those
concepts were acquired in U.S. Kids in a more non-school context whereas
for Russian kids they were acquired in more systematic school contexts.
(everyday-scientific). He looked at research of off shoots of Vygotsky in
which the assumption was instruction (school) can facilitate concept (A)
and more or less pointed toward concept (A) being acquired in everyday
contexts.
