Dear 1/2 XMCA-o-mites,

As many of you know, I have been working with my wife, Sheila, to revise
our textbook, *The Development of Children*. Mostly I keep that work
separate from XMCA discussions, but at present we are about to embark
on a revision of Chapter 13 on *schooling*. A LOT of you are interested
in matters educational, and I am hoping that a lot of you will take a
look at the current version of our chapter on schooling (to be found
at communication.ucsd.edu/MCA in the "papers" section) and use it as a
basis for discussion on XMCA. The chapter was first drafted in the mid
1980's and although it has been revised, I know from having spilled a
lot of time and perspiration on revising earlier chapters that it needs
a good deal of revision. So, assume it is target practice and fire away.
Suggestions for how to re-orient our thinking and concerete references
to empirical work that would enrich the discussion would be especially
appreciated.
