As I watched the tragic story of the heroic teacher who bled to death in
a barricaded classroom in Littleton Colorado after saving hundreds of
students and heard his heroic science teacher colleague say "I'm not a
hero. It's what teachers do a hundred times a day", a thought of my only
previous contacts with Littleton teachers and administrators who went
through two waves of right wing school board take-overs of their
excellent school system.

The attack on teacher education launched by the Thomas B. Fordham
foundation would replace these heroic professionals with ill-prepared
teachers who had academic degrees but no preparation for educating
children and youth in modern America. We're in the process of
privatizing our prisons and now we will turn our high schools into
privatized prisons.
