roll call, sound off....

I taught high school English outside Chicago for 14 years, completed my
doctorate in English Education, have taught in the English Ed. programs at
Oklahoma and now the U. of Georgia since 1990. On a personal note, my
family includes my wife and 2 kids, plus a horde of animals (2 dogs, 2
cats, numerous fauna that pass through our yard, plus our adopted pets of
40 cattle and 1 horse that live in the meadow across the street). I'm also
now a Cub Scout den leader and usually help coach at least one youth sports
team each year. I signed on to xlchc in 1994 following the Moscow Vygotsky
conference--the network has been my one steady discussion group and easily
the most informative as I've struggled to understand activity theory and
use it to frame my studies of teaching and learning in high school English
classes (and of methods for doing so--see my recent MCA article on protocol
analysis). My teaching assignments include preservice courses for
prospective English teachers and grad courses in various literacy practices.

One pitch I'd like to make: I coedit a journal (Research in the Teaching of
English) that includes doctoral students as external reviewers (one per
manuscript). If you are a doc student with interests in literacy studies,
and would like to review for us, please send your name, mailing and email
addresses (preferably an institutional address if you're likely to change
residences in the next 2 years), and preferred review topics to
rte who-is-at serv1.ncte.org. If you're a faculty member with doc students who'd
make good reviewers, please recommend them to the same address.

Thanks,Peter
