After reading James Wertsch's job announcement, I was inspired to share
this job announcement with colleagues on this list. Thank you James.

Dear Colleague,
I have been approached personally by the VP of Academic Affairs to
recruit potential candidates for the position of Dean of the School of
Education. The current dean of the School of Education will be vacating
his position at the end of this academic year and Dominican College is
seeking someone to fill this position for the Fall of 1999. Before doing a
national search, the VP of Academic Affairs, Denise Lucy asked that I
approach my colleagues to inquire as to whether you could recommend and
refer potential candidates for this position. Please share this position
announcement with other colleagues as well.
It is a 12 month tenure track position with faculty rank and
administrative responsibilities. The dean's position includes faculty
supervision, faculty development, student and curriculum development,
program evaluation, and the VPAA (VP of Academic Affairs) is particularly
keen on candidates with fundraising, budget management, and enrollment
management experience. An earned doctorate in education with a
demonstrated successful record of teaching, research, and teacher education
public policy is required.
Dominican College is an independent co-education Catholic liberal
arts college of 1,500 students located 11 miles north of San Francisco.
The School of Education consists of an undergraduate program in liberal
studies, graduate programs in multiple and single subjects, a master's
degree in curriculum and instruction, and the Academy of Professional
Development (an extension program). These programs are offered on three
campuses: San Rafael, Ukiah, and Solano County. There are seven full-time
faculty teaching 200 credential candidates.
Another important qualification is familiarity with the
recommendations of the CA Senate bill 1422 of Educator Preparation for the
21st century. The teaching faculty is eager to find a young, inspired,
dean of color who is familiar with the current issues confronting
California schools which include a sensitivity to the issues facing
language minority students, the education of diverse student populations,
and the need to diversify and enhance teacher credential programs in
innovative and visionary ways.
Please encourage qualified candidates to contact the VP of Academic
Affairs, Denise Lucy <lucy who-is-at dominican.edu>. Guzman Hall, Dominican College,
50 Acacia Ave. San Rafael, CA. 94901. Her phone number is (415) 485-3291.
Thank you for your assistance with this preliminary search effort. I hope
this finds you well and I appreciate your assistance with this matter.
Feel free to contact Denise Lucy should you have any questions. Denise
Lucy will be happy to provide additional information.

Best,
Melanie Hahn
