non-cognitive mediation/IACCP

Is anyone on the list familiar with any research regarding the mediated
nature of the *non* cognitive development of consciousness and practice,
e.g. emotional development and the language used to express it (not
really two subjects but perhaps two sides of the same coin) or
kinesthetic/sensory mediation?

Psychological anthropologists have a lot to say about differences in
these transculturally, but not much idea of how the differences come into
existence. For someone going into behavioral medicine, a lot of which is
teaching another person how to be in the world/their body/emotions/social
relations in a different way than previously, this is obviously of great
practical importance.

BTW, is anyone on this list also a member of the International
Association of Cross Cultural Psychology (IACCP) or the psychological
interest group of the American Anthropological Association?
