AERA DIVISION E AWARDS
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS AND ENTRIES

The Counseling and Human Development Division (Division E) of the
American Educational Research Association (AERA) announces this year's
awards competition. This year, Division E is accepting nominations and
entries for two different awards: The Outstanding Dissertation Award in
Counseling and the [Faculty] Research Award in Human Development.

Send all nominations to: Dr. Luzzo at luzzo who-is-at act.org.

OUTSTANDING DISSERTATION AWARD IN COUNSELING

Entries and nominations are being accepted for the Outstanding
Dissertation Award in Counseling, which will be presented at the 1998
AERA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. A doctoral dissertation is
eligible for consideration if it is in the area of Counseling, the degree
was officially awarded between January 1, 1996, and December 31, 1997,
and the dissertation is available in English. Preference is given to
studies that reflect, in design or discussion, educational or applied
issues. [Note: Next year's award will be for an outstanding dissertation
in the human development area.]

The recipient of the Outstanding Dissertation Award in Counseling will
receive an award plaque at the Division E Business Meeting at the 1998
Annual Meeting. The winner also will receive a monetary award of $200
toward the cost of attending the Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Recent graduates who wish to be considered for the award must submit
the following: (a) 3 copies of their dissertation, (b) three copies of a
2- to 3-page single-spaced summary, and (c) a one-page signed cover
letter. The summary should be written with care, as if it were to be
submitted as an AERA conference paper proposal. The cover letter should
provide the dissertation's title; the author's name, address, telephone
number(s), and E-mail address (when available); the name of the
institution where the doctoral degree was completed; the degree date
(month and year); and the names and addresses of the dissertation
committee members. All entries and supporting materials must be received
by February 1, 1998.

OUTSTANDING RESEARCH AWARD IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Entries and nominations are being accepted for the Outstanding Research
Award in Human Development, which will be presented at the 1998 AERA
Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. Research articles in the human
development area that were published in refereed journals in 1996 or 1997
are eligible for this award.

An award plaque will be presented to the author or to each co-author of
the winning article at the Division E Business Meeting at the 1998 AERA
Annual Meeting. The author or each co-author also will receive a monetary
award of $200 to apply toward the cost of attending the 1998 Annual
Meeting.

The committee welcomes both self-nominations as well as nominations
from
others. All nominations, whether by an author or other researcher, should
include a copy of the nominated article. All nominated articles must be
received by February 1, 1998. Please think about the recent research
articles you have published or have read in the area of human development
and consider nominating the best one for the 1998 Outstanding Research
Award. [Note: Next year's award will be for an oustanding journal article
in the counseling area.]

Submit all nominations and entries (along with all supporting
documentation described above) to: Darrell Anthony Luzzo, Chair, Division
E Awards Committee, ACT, Inc., 2255 N. Dubuque Road, P.O. Box 168, Iowa
City, Iowa 52243-0168. Please direct your questions about the
application process to Dr. Luzzo at 319/337-1223 or luzzo who-is-at act.org.
Remember, the deadline for the receipt of all entries is FEBRUARY 1,
1998.

Thank you!
