Cynthia and others,

I am very busy and usually 'lurk' on this list serve and keep messages til
I can read them. However, the discussion provoked by Cynthia's message
really interests me. I am currently designing a social environment in a
technology park so that businesses, advanced researchers and the wider
community have reasons to learn from each other. So far, it is the
businesses who have the most desire to participate...they need to
understand the research and how researchers think and they are already very
aware ofd the need to have a strong social audit in relation to their
consumers. The consumers of new technical innovations associate them with
redundancy and rather painful economic reforms that are problematic her at
the moment. The researchers have a long tradition of a rather socially
removed 'objective and scientific' research environment.
