as a contribution to the most recent discussion of grads participating
on the xmca list, I offer the following - it's old, many of you may
have seen it already, in which case, sorry to clog yer space; for those
who are not sure if they are grads, the list below will help:

>"You just might be a graduate student IF:
>-you analyze the social significance of appliance you do not know how to
>use
>-your office is decorated better than your apartment
>-you have as a folklore project kept track of progress of dialogue on the
>"Net
>-you have ever taken homework to a bar
>-you rate coffee shops by availability of outlets for laptops
>-everything you read reminds you of something in your research
>-you have ever dicussed academic topics at a football game
>-you have ever spent more than $50 on photocopying
>-you have a microfilm reader you consider "yours"
>-you have a preference between microfilm and microfiche
>-you can tell the time of day by watching the library traffic
>-you regard aspirin as a vitamin
>-your professors really don't care when you hand in a paper
>-you find bibliographies more interesting than the text
>-you accept guilt as a form of relaxation
>-you explain to your neices and nephews you are in the 20th grade
>-you wonder how long you can live on peanut butter without getting scurvy
>-you look forward to the next holiday in order to do laundry
>-you have more photocopy cards than credit cards
>-you wonder if MLA style allows you to cite your dreams as "personal
>communications"
