I am currently completing an MA in applied linguistics at James Cook
University in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. I am applying to do a
PhD in 1998, again in the field of applied linguistics. I have been
teaching in high schools for the past fifteen years, working mainly in the
subject areas of Drama and French. I am very interested in improving the
lot of the school teacher with the help of the field of applied
linguistics, by assisting teachers to develop a strong intellectual
framework, which will help them to not only defend their position but
improve the learning environment for the language learner. Few theorists
or researchers inspire me but those I admire at the moment include Andrew
and Ania Lian and Anne Freedman. I hope that my research will make a
significant difference for both the language learner and teacher by being
applicable to today's language learning environments, whatever they may
be.
