Dennis Beach did some ethnographic experimenting by going into (university)
classrooms very early before lessons and rearranging the furniture circle
fashion: some teachers put the furniture back "in order", others didn't. I
don't remember precisely, but this difference may have been one of his
criteria for the two (hhistorically contingent) teacher categories he
uncovered.
