Ruth Garner's 1990 article may be of interest to David Dirlam and others
pursuing the issue of settings. The title is "When children and adults do
not use learning strategies: Toward a theory of settings" and it appeared
in The Review of Ed Research, 60 (4) pp 517 - 530. She addresses some of
the points being discussed and raises others. Some food for thought to
accompany your morning coffee.
