Union City Schools in Union City NJ has built a highly successful
teachnology program K-12. The key I think is that the technology is always
in the service of their district wide whole language curriculum. Some
things I saaw there: k-1 kids writing and using a variety of programs like
wiggle-workds. Middle schoolers researching Lorraine Hansberry's Raisin in
the Sun, high school lit studies with groups making multimedia
presentations on books they had read. And a tenth grade club doing
webpages for all the city agencies and non-profit groups in town. Fred
Carreg is the administrator in charge of all this. Bell Atlantic has
helped with hookups and equipment. They have done some publishing on their
work- Clinton and Gore announced their technology program at the middle
school in Union City.
