Pentti Hakkarainen requested some information a few days ago and no one
has responded. I have a little bit of information, but mostly I am
interested in where her research is headed. Specifically, she requested
references that would contribute to current efforts to _analyze children's
play in historical perspective._ The best source I can offer is the work
of Opie and Opie--they are/were folklorists in the UK. Beyond that, a
few years ago the City Museum of New York had an exhibit on children's
play in NYC--they may have a catalog from that exhibit. And, of course,
several scholars have written about the effect of electronic mass media on
children's play, materialistic desires, and imagination. I suspect this
work on the mass media focuses on changes too recent to be what Pentti
wants.
