When you visit Singapore and Kuala Lumpur you see a strange kind of capital-sm
ism. One in which business interests and the government merge as one and
everything operates without the constraints democratic institutions impose.
The prosperity- and abundance of goods, technology, etc. are there but
the inequality is also there. It shows in a controlled poverty on the one
hand with people surrounded by affluence but unable to participate and on the
otherhand by severe limitations on academics in econmic opportunities,
academic lack of freedom, and work loads (many working several jobs).
