I believe there is broad agreement on xmca to the following statement
by Ken this am (in california):
I'm not asking people to defend whole language. I'm asking that the
level of discussion be raised out of the gutter and out of the totalal
disregard for logic, evidence and truth which is now characterizing it.
This is what I read Fritz to have written a few message back.
I also believe that Ken and Phil are in agreement on what kinds
of activities academics knowledgable about the issues ought to
be doing.
I take the substance of that agreement to heart. Most immediately,
I will take another look at my treatment of the issues in the
introductory developmental text, the third edition of which is
about to go into production. I will also re-orient my thinking
about a relevant course I am teaching in the fall.
Inadequate? Sure.
I would welcome a special issue of MCA devoted to the broad range
of issues being raised here and other suggestions for responsible
action.
