getting to the Bismarck

Hello travellers--many of you will no doubt be making your first pilgrimage
to the Bismarck next week. If you're arriving by plane to O'Hare, I think
the simplest way to get there is to take the El from the airport to the Loop
(it's the cheapest and most direct way). I forget how it's marked, but look
for signs for the El, the train, or something like that; or ask someone how
to get to the El that takes you to the Loop. Get off at the Washington St.
stop. This will put you, I think about a block south of Randolph, and a few
blocks east of the Bismarck--you'll be near the Daly Plaza where you'll see
the great Picasso and Miro outdoor sculptures. Your easiest landmark for
finding the Bismarck is the State of Illinois building, which is a
weird-looking building on Randolph a block or so east of the Bismarck (Lake
Michigan, by the way, is to the east of all this). The Bismarck's on the
south side of Randolph (the State of Illinois building is on the north side).

I suspect that most out-of-towners will arrive at O'Hare. If you're coming
in by train or flying into Midway and don't know your way around, you might
want to post a question about getting to the Bismarck from there.

Do any locals have any entertainment ideas for Saturday night? We're going
to make reservations for groups at a number of Loop-area restaurants for
anyone who wants to sign up for them. But there's also the symphony, the
blues bars, basketball and hockey, tons of theater, and all else that
Chicago has to offer. Please drop a line if you've got any special
recommendations for out-of-towners.

See you soon!
