Basically, we're looking at dyads who successfully write together, and we're
finding that it's a time consuming process to get the data in a form we can
use for analysis. We use a 50-item Q-sort for the basis of interviews with
the dyads, then do a broad transcription of the interviews. These
transcriptions take at least 8 hours, so in order to save time, we then
decide on specific parts of the interviews to look at more closely. Then
these segments are transcribed more narrowly so that we have more clearly
defined data to look at.
How are you gathering your data? And who is doing your transcriptions for
you? We use secretarial help from time to time, but we find that they are
not really trained to do the kinds of transcriptions that we need.
I think all of us are interested in the work you are doing in the field of
education. Who are you studying, and how are you gathering your data? We're
planning to present some of this data at the AAAL meeting in March. Will you
be there?
