XLCHC at AERA?

1

Should we plan to have a meeting of people who want to use the new xlchc.org site for intellectual discussions and networking in our community at the AERA conference in San Francisco in Spring 2013?

Yes, I think we should also host a tutorial for the new xlchc site and help people create accounts.

At the CHAT SIG Business Meeting at AERA, can we agree to discuss how to give online support to the world-wide CHAT community? using xlchc.org and xmca, etc.

Proposal: That the lab organize an AERA session on ways that technology is and can be made the friend rather than the enemy of diversity.

Don't you think it is important to have some interesting and even exciting *content* on the site before we encourage others to come and look? There are after all no shortage of bulletin boards in the internet.

I would like to know how to initiate a new symposium? There is no "New" button.

Absolutely right, Andy. So locally we are organizing an AERA symposium (I assume you are on lchcinternal list, if not, signal that fact). ET is on vacation and presumably he, or ivan, can answer question about new symposium. I want to start discussion (or is it a symposium?) on Functional systems and functional organs, of which, I believe, living artifacts are constituents, but first I have to figure out how to do it!!

Yes, I got the automated email notice that I had been commented upon. If you start something about Functional systems, I will happily participate. But I am rather tired of talking about this system. I am ready to do something, I can probably use the "Symposium" facility, or just give me server permissions and I'll DIY it. But I can do nothing as it is. The lack of a "New" button for Symposiums tells me that what is envisaged is something tightly managed by the server managers. When the tech guy is on holiday or busy or gone to another job, nothing happens.

We have not heard back from peter about the business meeting and this
topic.

I am doing a workshop the day before AERA (I think). Want to have one
at AERA about how to use xlchc.org??

Yes, thanks to Etienne, I can subscribe and join conversations!! Unfortunately, I have a horrible reputation and no points - good grief!! I feel like a 21st C. Hester Prynne ...

About XLCHC at AERA, I want to say a big yes, and also to the idea of a tutorial, and what happened to Mike's idea of do a bit of an introduction to this at the business meeting? Has anyone connected with Peter S to ask him if we can reserve some time?

Best to all - jen

I did email Peter Smagorinsky and his reply was sort of non-committal. That he would check with the organizing committee and see how much time was already committed, but our suggestion was welcome. Seems that time at the meeting was already booked by Lois Holzman for some Bay Area group (maybe a psychodrama performance?).

Hmmm ... that's too bad. The last two AERA business meetings were devoted to local youth organizations, little time for our own business, and I thought it might be different this coming year. Thanks for checking with him, Jay. All well is all I can say. Best to all - jen
