Martin, This article by David Hildebrand, "Progress in History: Dewey on Knowledge of the Past" http://www.academia.edu/597810/Progress_in_history_Dewey_on_knowledge_of_the_past offers an interesting discussion of the ways in which history is used in terms of the present. For more specific and direct critiques of the way history is used perhaps bell hooks and although this is mostly related to legal issues "Critical Race Theory."
