               OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE VICE CHANCELLOR

                             May 7, 2012

ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT: Candidate Forums: Search for the Vice Chancellor-Equity,
         Diversity & Inclusion

The members of the Search Committee for the position of Vice
Chancellor-Equity, Diversity & Inclusion have concluded their
deliberations and have provided me with the names of three candidates
who will be invited to visit the campus.

The search now enters the public phase and I encourage the campus
community to participate via a series of informal open forums in which
the candidates will be available to discuss their interest in the Vice
Chancellor-Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (VC-EDI) position and the
skills and expertise they bring to the position. Candidate bios and CVs
will be posted on the VC-EDI Search Website as they become available.
An email link to provide feedback to me is also available on the
website: http://academicaffairs.ucsd.**edu/evc/vcedi.html<http://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/evc/vcedi.html>.

Candidate forums have been scheduled for the following dates:

* Monday, May 14, 2012 - 9:00 -10:00 a.m. - Student Services Center,
 Multipurpose Room

* Tuesday, May 15, 2012 - 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. - Student Services Center,
 Multipurpose Room

* Tuesday, May 29, 2012 - 9:00-10:00 a.m. - Student Services Center,
 Multipurpose Room

The VC-EDI is a newly created position at UC San Diego. The position is
charged with assessing the effectiveness of all diversity and outreach
programs and services on campus, and will be expected to lead UC San
Diego to measurable improvements in organizational climate and the
recruitment and retention in a diverse community of faculty, staff, and
students. Achieving such diversity is a high institutional priority, and
is integral to our achievement of academic excellence.

I want to thank the search committee, co-chaired by UC San Diego
Foundation Trustee Donald Murphy, for their diligence and the dedicated
effort put forth to identify this pool of talented candidates.
