RE: [xmca] ISCAR (review)

It would I think be really interesting to take up the topic of Action Research again. For various reasons I have been doing a lot of research into it lately. I think one of the difficulties is that perhaps the question was a little off - doing a comparison between Action Research and CHAT. I think perhaps a better question is how does CHAT theory fit within an Action Research approach. If I remember that central article put up for discussion was Seth Chaiklin's article comparing Vygotsky with Lewin, Except what I am finding is that Action Research is not the same thing as Lewin's theory. As a matter of fact it's not a theory at all. It is instead an ensemble production I guess, with a whole lot of interesting players and one extraordinary coincidence (the degree to which Freire's ideas in Pedagogy of the Oppressed mirror some of the original ideas behind action research even though really their only common denominator are basic ties to Dewey). As a matter of fact I am sort of interested in how Action Research came to be seen as primarily Lewin's theory.

Well anyway, if anybody is interested in starting up the discussion about Action Research again I certainly am game.

Michael

Thanks Volker--

Fernando expressed an interest in having his paper in the Portes et al
volume discussed at XMCA and I have a copy somewhere. I will post when
possible.

Its odd you mention the AR-CHAT issue of MCA, Volker. I was hoping there
would be more discussion of the papers since we had access to all of them.
Are you proposing that we post some more from that symposium or that get
Bella to send us her talk??
