Three Postdoctoral Scholar positions for the Digital Media & Learning Research Hub, at the systemwide University of California Humanities Research Institute, located at the UC Irvine campus in Southern California. The postdoctoral scholars will collaborate in MacArthur Foundation-funded research investigating national and international developments in digital media and learning.

Requirements – Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and research experience with contemporary developments concerning youth, digital media and learning in the US and globally. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in social network analysis, Internet research, organizational theory and/or experience with ethnographic research with young people. Evidence of collaborative and mixed methods research will also be valued. Travel may be required in this position to perform research and meet with collaborators.

Positions are dependent on extramural funding. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based on performance and is contingent on receipt of project funding. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue through application deadline of May 31, 2011.

The appointments may begin as early as June 1, 2011 (two positions are contingent upon IRB approval) and would continue until May 31, 2012, renewable pending review and available funding. Annual salary ranges from $49,452 to $52,944 depending on experience.

Position: Associate Specialist

The UC Humanities Research Institute at the University of California, Irvine anticipates an opening for an Associate Specialist.

An Associate Specialist position will be available at the Digital Media & Learning Research Hub in Southern California. The specialist will collaborate in supporting research investigating young people's learning in relation to new media technology.

Minimum requirements: Applications are sought from candidates with a Master's degree or higher in a relevant field, and 2 or more years of collaborative research experience. Candidate must have experience with or knowledge of relevant software tools and platforms, storage issues, and metadata issues pertinent to digital libraries and/or institutional repositories. Candidate must have the ability to draft and maintain clear documentation and policies for projects and programs.

Desired skills include experience with mixed methods social scientific research and data analysis software, strong communication skills and experience with educational and other institutional settings. The position is dependent on extramural funding.
