re: second and final call for expressions of interest: AUSTRALIAN
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS AND RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS - 2009-2013

A research team here at the Faculty of Education, Queensland University of
Technology, Brisbane, Australia has been commissioned to undertake a program
evaluation of a major Australian Federal government initiative in the school
reform, leadership training and networking of Aboriginal schools
(2009-2013). The team consists of: Allan Luke, Val Klenowski, James Ladwig,
John Lester (Newcastle), Paul Shield, Courtney Cazden (Harvard) and Annette
Woods.

We are calling for expressions of interest to fill 3 positions:

1. Senior Research Associate (Quantitative)
2. Research Associate (Qualitative)
3. Research Assistant

All three appointments will be for 1 year in the first instance, reviewable
and renewable for the duration of the project (until 6/13). Commencement
will be ASAP 2009.

We have begun shortlisting, and hope to appoint early in September, so this
is urgent.

Position 1. Senior Research Associate (Quantitative)

We are looking for recent PhD graduates with expertise in the quantitative
analysis of comparative school outcomes. The position would entail
responsibility for data management, instrument design, data analysis - with
ample opportunities for publication and collaborative work with senior
colleagues.

The position will negotiate a salary at the senior lecturer/associate
professor level (approximately 85,000 AUD per annum plus
superannuation/pension package), standard travel and settlement expenses
will apply.

This is a call for expressions of interest from recently completed PhDs with
expertise in the following:

essential:

* quantitative analysis of comparative school performance (descriptive,
multivariate and longitudinal)
* survey instrument development, implementation and data analysis

 relevant and valuable:

* the schooling of indigenous, cultural and linguistic minority and lower
SES students
* school leadership
* school reform and change

Position 2. Research Associate (Qualitative)

Recent PhD graduates with expertise in the qualitative analysis of
comparative school outcomes. The position would entail responsibility for
working with schools on developing action research and qualitative case
study templates  - with ample opportunities for publication and
collaborative work with senior colleagues.

The position will negotiate a salary at the lecturer/assistant professor
(approximately 72,000 AUD per annum plus superannuation/pension package),
standard travel and settlement expenses
will apply.

Specific expertise in the following:

essential:

* working knowledge of quasi-ethnographic, qualitative case study methods,
action research, semi-structured interview and survey techniques
* school case study work with teachers and principals

 relevant and valuable:

* the schooling of indigenous, cultural and linguistic minority and lower
SES students
* school leadership
* school reform and change

Position 3: Research Assistant

Masters and honours degree in education or related social sciences. The
position will entail data collection, project logistical organisation,
editing and report writing, coordination of collaborative links with
schools, teachers, principals and community members. There will be
opportunities for doctoral study and publication.

The position will negotiate a salary at research assistant level
(approximately 58,000 AUD per annum plus superannuation/pension package),
standard travel and settlement expenses
will apply.

Essential: completed courses or thesis with demonstrated knowledge of mixed
method research methodology, knowledge of schools and teachers

Relevant: indigenous, cultural and linguistic minority education, school
experience, knowledge of literature on school leadership, reform and change

This is a major fully funded project of national and international
significance, and will yield pportunities for publication, networking with
international and Australian academics, educators and government planners,
and the further development of research expertise for the successful
