Since effectiveness is such a loaded word, you might want to think about how
to frame your question in an answerable way?
Dewey has interesting ideas on this issue that appear to me compatible with
what I take to be a sociocultural view (although
there are probably as many interpretations of "sociocultural" as of
"effectiveness." I would venture that an increase in control
over the problematic situations that involve whatever (range) of processes
you are considering, mirrored by increases in self
control, would be a common denominator between Dewey and LSV.

What do you mean by effectiveness "in teaching and learning"? The discussion
around Andy Blunden's issue of a child experiencing difficulty in
mathematics learning might be relevant.
