hi david. have you searched roger chartier ? tough he is an scholar expertised in reading, h has interesting connections to writing. Secondly there is another italian scholar named " giorgio cardona" who has printed a book entitled " anthropology of writing". Thirdly, emilia ferreiro has edited a serie of book in an spanish collection named "LEA"- lectura escritura alfabetización at Gedisa editors This collection has some book related to your quest.
