It seems to me a great example of the jungiana sincronicidad of which
Professor Lemke and I both have returned to the list xmca at the same moment
after prolonged absences. The meaning of this sincronicidad I do not dare to
interpret but that I remain contentment with writing down it, not but. In my
case, the decision to return to list XMCA has been motivated by deep changes
in my own life. First, volvi to Peru after many years in order to in line
promote and to participate in the development of education systems aqui. The
Internet has scattered of a phenomenal way by all Peru in the last years.
One finds the premises of the Internet in any town that has telephone line
and a greater population of 1.000 inhabitants. Without embargo its use by
jovenes (who are the predominant users) has been limited mainly the games
and the chateo to weigh of which the educative necessities to whom it could
be dedicated are too obvious for who knows the reality Peruvian. This
challenge impelled to me that it left the life placentera but carecente
sense greater than enjoyed in the north of California where in line gained
the life like professor for different institutions and occasional producer
from medicinal grass. Second, known casí at the time of arriving some
professors, friends of, requested to me that it dictated to courses for the
National University San Cristobal de Huamanga (UNSCH), located in the city
of Ayacucho, a site that some of You you will recognize like the center of
the political violence that exploded during period 1980-1995. I habia made
my works of field for the doctorate in anthropology in Huancavelica that is
not very far from here and also worked during 3 years in Huancayo, also
located in the central mountain range although culturally "huanca" is zone
whereas Ayacucho is zone "chanca". In the UNSCH I am working with the
faculty of public infirmary and salúd and is probable that beginning to work
with the faculty of education in a nondistant future. In addition the
coordinator of the public program of salúd wants to develop a specialized
program to support to the students of the masters in the accomplishment of
his tesís of degree. It seems that of that registers in the masters programs
only the %10 they finish tesís and it attributes it to the lack of a
suitable preparation in the investigation process. As soon as that I have
made all class of investigations, as much in Peru during years 70 and 80
like in the U.S.A. during the following years, the director wants to
contract me to organize this program, once Degree of the UNSCH has been
approved by the Directive Council of the Post. (That could delay as soon as
that we lived the "Peruvian hour"). I believe that such project could be
from much benefit as much for the students as for the inhabitants of the
region; farmers and urban workers of Ayacucho in himself specially as soon
as that incorporate the directions of teoria of activity and psicologia
cultural. All the students who I have known until the moment work. Most of
them carries out the positions of nurses, obstetricians, and other offices
related to the sector of salúd public. The first course that I dictated, the
epistemología, I allowed myself to ipresentar the theory to them of the
activity and had a great welcome on the part of the students. Unfortunately
it could not find many materials in the Spanish on the subject in spite of
spending many hours search through the Internet. Thus I sent a message to
Mike that, the great man who is and always has been, answered immediately
informandome to me that could count on its support in any form that could
offer it. Also he told me that at this same moment habia a thread in XMCA
that dealed with the subject the bilinguismo in the list. Rapidito I
registered in the list and suddenly I found the discussion on "the Spanish".
That it suffers gave me to see it disappear in palabrerrío pos-modernist
that seemed to silence them who had initiated it! I do not believe that the
"rope" -- like it they have called some -- that were could serve to maintain
much of use I practice and I would not try to hold the candles of my boat
with it. Bién more seems to me a form to fray other productive threads, as
me it seemed it the interchange that it developed about the necessity that
xmca becomes a bilingual forum better to serve the necessities as them who
estan trying to spread to the theory of activity and psicologia cultural by
paises in where he is spoken Spanish. Those that they have known me from my
previous participation in the XMCA know that I see much of this parloteo as
a form of subversion of the transforming grain of vygotskiana psychology and
the theory of the activity. Of ningun way I see as these discursillos could
be of benefit to my students of salúd public, working professionals who yes
recognized the contribution that the models of Vygotsky, Leont'ev,
Engestrom, and Cole (the authors that presents/displays to them in the
course) could provide them in the task of solving problems of their real
practice. I perceive a great necessity to spread to the works of the
activity theory and cultural psychology by paises of the america south where
the problems of the bilinguismo (p.e., Quechua/Español) and a
multi-culturalismo rooted in historía and reality of the conquest and the
scorn by the indigenous cultures, afligan the practical work of
professionals in fields like those of salúd and the education. In the first
class of the course which I dictated in the UNSCH, I asked to them the
students (all nurses, obstetricians, etc. since I have indicated above) what
problems considered to be most important for the performance of their
professional work. All agreed in which the asi-call "interculturalidad", a
term very of rows at the moment, was one of its greater desafios.
Nevertheless, no of them could explain in practical terms (and practicable)
that it means "the culture". When we arrived at discussions on the triangles
of the activity, I could feel his enthusiasm when seeing new instruments
that could serve to them to deepen this central problem his. In conclusion I
mean that I hope that Martin, nacho and the others that began to discuss
these directions and the necessity to promote them in these earth will
follow ahead; that we share experiences and resources, that we not only form
work groups for the translation of Vygotsky but also of Leont'ev, Engestrom,
Ilyenkov, and others, that we spread the studies that have been made inside
of this theoretical frame. I do not see the necessity to translate these
contributions to the English as soon as that the mere fact to make the work
additional reproduces esqemas of cultural domination. I do not believe
either that it is necessary to create a Spanish sub-list of speech. Mike has
indicated that it wants to promote the bilinguismo in the list and for all
there are threads that are ***reflxed mng and other that no, some languages
that serve one, and other that no. Good, I hope that this contribution finds
a resonance with some of You who have finished it reading.
